Dear members of the Korean Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons,
I was elected the new president of the Korean Association of Maxillofacial Surgeons for the next three years as a successor to former President, professor Jong-Ho Lee. 58 years have passed since KAOMS was founded in 1959. It is composed of 1,941 members, and is one of the largest associations in the field of dentistry. It is truly my honor to be elected the president of KAOMS, but I feel a heavy weight of responsibility and a sense of duty. I would like to fulfill the following initiatives for the next three years. None of these initiatives would be possible without your support and participation.
First, I will make efforts to further specialize the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and promote its scope of practice and specialty to the public as well as medical communities in order to proclaim our special field. Although dental specialty programs have been implemented for a while, the field of medicine has kept expressing a continuous challenge and negative view of our specialty. To improve such status, active promotions and systematic management will be necessary to protect and expand our field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Second, I would like to focus on improving the treatment fee in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery by invigorating the Committee on National Insurance Program improvement and by having opportunities to discuss the way to improve treatment fee with Ministry of Health and Welfare Administration, Korean Dental Association, and our members. In addition, to surpass the rapidly evolving medical technologies, a field of robotic and digital surgery will be introduced, encouraging the development of technology and new treatment technique in the field of digital, new materials, and stem cell technology to create new treatment fee system.
Third, another initiative I would like to implement is to provide support for KAOMS journal editorial fields. I will endeavor to extend the term of editor in chief of KAOMS journal, enhance the quality of our journal by pursuing specialization and independency of editorial department, make it acknowledged internationally, and as a result, gain a reputation as an International journal.
Fourth, I will strive to make our association recognized internationally, and organize a promotion committee in an effort to host the 2022 Asia congress of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery(ACOMS) in Korea. In order to achieve this goal, I will work closely together with the government, international organizations, and other countries in Asia.
Fifth, 59th KAOMS annual conference will be held at Seoul Asan Medical Center next year and 60th KAOMS annual conference is two years away. To mark the 60th year of its foundation, I would like to encourage our members to devote our energy to preparing for the annual conference for the next two years and hope it will be a festive place where all members including dental practitioners can participate.
Lastly, I will continuously communicate with our members. I will expand the cities and provinces branch manager system nationwide, which was decided by the board of trustees last year. I will encourage each branch's activities, set up a cities and provinces conference system as a public organization, and consequently deal with difficulties our members face.
Dear respected members of KAOMS, I am committed to creating an environment where our members participate voluntarily, communicate with each other more, and work in concord with each other. I believe that bringing KAOMS together will serve as a stepping stone to develop our association. I sincerely request your continuous support and encouragement.
